New garage?

I hear that there is going to be a new garage built and that there will be possible two retail spaces available??? Not sure how true this is or not, but if there will be two retail spaces available, I think that they should be occupied by some inexpensive dining options lol. Like a Chick-fi-la, Burger King, something with a dollar/value menu LOL... but seriously... I get tired of the same places to go to that are not really providing much bang for your buck. If I want to spend six dollars for a meal that consist of deli meat and chips, I would go to the store, buy the lunch meat and bread and chips for less than that (or damn near close to it) and make class snacks for all week. I, and some fellow peers, do not believe that there are enough food options on or near campus and we would like to see a change...

What other food vendors would everyone like to see and can someone verify if this garage thing is coming or not? Thanks!!! :o)

Hey Rose,
Yes, the Fitzgerald development will have retail space available. They are saying development won't be done until next year. In the meantime, I'm with you- too many expensive food options around the campus, not enough cheap choices. Maybe we can petition the company's we want to have stores in the space? Just an idea.

Hi Rose! Thanks for bringing this up. The Fitzgerald at UB Midtown, which is being developed on the University property where Bolton Yard Lot once sat, will feature retail space, including a Barnes & Noble College Booksellers Superstore. So far, that's the only retailer that's been announced. It will also feature a 1,200-plus space garage, much of which will be dedicated to UB parking. The garage is expected to come online no later than the beginning of the spring 2010 semester--in less than a year! Here's more infor: http://www.ubalt.edu/news/index.cfm?id=977.

The Fitzgerald garage is now open! As you mentioned, the majority of spaces are available to UB. There are four lanes (reversible), three elevators, state-of-the-art parking equipment, tall ceilings, and it is open air (good feel), yet secure. It has a PMI-staffed office throughout the day. As with any UB lot, the value pass works with all the equipment - same rates as any UB garage. Shuttle will drive right into the garage. As part of Fitzgerald, the garage will be LEED Certified (projected Silver). Barnes & Noble is scheduled to open in early Summer. Some great (reasonably priced) retail concepts for the spaces on Mount Royal Ave in the works. . .
