Will This Snow Ever Melt?!

I want to extend a warm welcome & hello to all of those who are reading this, and to my fellow bloggers! This is my very first time blogging for UB, and I'm definitely waayy too excited about it! I started thinking about what I wanted to write...days ago. Haha.

Well, let me start off with a little bit about lil' ol' me. I am a junior at UB, majoring in Criminal Justice. I was a part of the very first freshmen class that came to UB in 2007, so we were the 'test subjects' so to speak. They did not know exactly how to handle freshmen that first year, as this had been an upper division school for 30+ years. In my very first semester here I joined student government (UBSC..who at the time was USS) as a member at large. Now I am serving as the undergraduate treasurer, and have been for almost two years. You can find me on campus doing any of these 4 things: 1) sitting in class, 2) running around to meet with clubs/working on funding, 3) planning block party, or 4) attending other events.

Speaking of attending other events, did anyone attend SEB's aquarium night on Valentines Day? Last year they had over 1200 people show up, but this year because of the snow (which will be out there until JUNE) not that many were able to attend. But, regardless of the turn out, Aquarium Night is always a hit! How can you, as a UB student, pass up a free trip to the aquarium, while your friends and family get in for only 5 dollars! They also added a 4D movie for $1, which was pretty cool. I loved the Jelly Invasion exhibit the most, mainly because I am a native to Baltimore, and have seen everything the Aquarium has to offer - except the Jellys!

On another note, they finally came and plowed my street at 3 in the morning last night, and I was able to drive my car for the first time in over a week! My little saturn could not handle the foot of ice and snow that was still in the middle of the street. I also live on the top of a hill, and have to drive down hill every which way. Talk about danger! But, that's in the past now, and I'm sick of the snow. I want to be able to drive again!

Welcome Courtney... Wow... I could have seen the jellyfish for free... This blog needs you!
I don't know what direction you intend to take yur degree but I work out (as in exercise) with a Baltimore City ex-police officer who is also an ex-Mr. Maryland (for body building). As you might imagine, he has some incredible stories to tell about the criminal justice system... or lack thereof. I'm curious as to what attracted you to the field?

Haha, thanks! I hope to bring a few of these events to light on the blog, so maybe a few more people than normal will attend :)

I will be very honest, when I was younger there were two shows that had me interested from the get go: Unsolved Mysteries & Cold Case Files. I have just always been interested in how you catch a killer, or criminal in general. I've always been interested in what makes someone commit a crime. I've thought about profiling, and taking CJ and Psychology. I've even thought about going to Law School and studying criminal law. It's all just very fascinating, and I can't say why for sure. haha.

And that sounds like an awesome work out partner! I have always enjoyed having professors who have worked in the CJ field for so long because they all bring really interesting stories to the class.

Welcome Courtney...unfortunately i found out about Aquarium night either Sat or Sunday morning and by then I was out with husband. I LOVE the aquarium. I have a friend that works there so I can get in free anyway !!! But i certainly would have come and supported the UB Night had I known.

As for your major and maybe AnnW can ask her friend this but I always wondered if a person is killed and the case goes unsolved for some time, is there anyone you can call to see if there had ever been a break in the case. I ask because I lost a cousin to murder nearly 10 years ago, his mom moved and has since passed away. All of his family really but it hurts us the cousins, aunts and uncles, not knowing if there was ever a break. You don't ever have peace. If either of you have any insight on that, please let me know.

Again, welcome and good luck with your degree. You're almost done !
