Happy Fat

Happy Fat (ha-pē phat) - noun
Origin - Only in America and some parts of Eastern Europe
Definition - what happens after several years of a relationship
Usage - "Bob was very surprised when he saw the pictures from his 4th wedding anniversary. There were pockets of happy fat all around his body."

Currently, I am in the same boat tanker.

Not sure how it happened. It just creeps up on you and one day, several years later, you look in the mirror and ask who is that man in the mirror (my props to MJ). You turn around (which of course takes longer than it did a couple of years ago) and see that that man in the mirror is indeed you (x2).

Don't get me wrong...I love my relationship, I love my life, I love my dog (even he has gained the not so elusive happy fat, to the point that the vet has put him on a green bean diet. Luckily for him, he loves green beans)...and I unfortunately love my food. Just not sure I thought I could have gained this much weight just because I am indeed - happy.

You sorta just fall into a lifestyle and a routine where fixing leaky toilets, mulching the yard, riding the motorcycles, visiting friends for dinner (and lunch and breakfast and beers after softball), and just your day to day living becomes more important than your ever-expanding waist line.

I should have seen the signs just a couple of years ago....

We went shopping for our "fat" cruise wear at the outlets (you can't beat Haggar expanding waistline pants with the hidden elastic band for dressing up for dinner on your cruise). They fit loosely for the cruise, and I kind of liked the way they felt, so I started wearing them for work...and now...my "fat" cruise wear is now too tight...yes the culprit being...happy fat.

I go to work and I can't slide as easily between our conference room door and the chair at the head of the table...yes, happy fat strikes again.

My favorite orange Reese's t-shirt is now a wonderful and stylish half-shirt (without cutting it) - welcome to happy fat land.

Luckily for me, I got to renew my driver's license online not too long ago and was able to use my picture from 5 years ago...and I left my weight the same too (actually, I don't think I was that weight since early 1993.)

I am sure many of you have or are experiencing this phenomenom...heck, even K-Fed is making the scale wince (his ex calls it "daddy weight"...just a synonym for happy fat...well, his happy fat comes from 20,000 g's a month...heck, I would have even more happy fat with that dough - did I just say dough? man, I could eat some pizza...I digress).

Luckily, for me, my other half loves me because of who I am under the happy fat (well, what can be remembered). While I will be working on getting down to at least my fat cruisewear size, I am not sure I want to get rid of all of it...i kinda like having a place to rest my remote while laying on the couch watching Paula Dean on the Food Network.

Tim... this post is hilarious and I know many who feel the same but wouldn't have the "heart" or wit to be so forthcoming. And, isn't it wonderful that you can say (and I beleive) you are happy in your life... not everyone is so satisfied. So count your blessings, eat string beans instead of pizza and get plenty of exercise so your better half can enjoy taking cruises with you for many years to come.

OMG that was too funny and too true !!! I know how you feel about that drivers license thing. I am dreading taking a real picture !!! Between the picture and the weight, I might get arrested for having a fake ID !!! And your dog being on a green bean diet..that was too funny too. !! I remember my beloved dog Nutmeg, she'd sit at the stove waiting her pancake and syrup and bacon ! I guess we were just in our HAPPY FAT zone !!!
