I hate when people have the wrong idea of what Baltimore. It's annoying actually an sounds almost ignorant.Entering UB I have met a lot of people who aren't from Baltimore City and have this "The Wire" view of my home town. Assuming things gets you no where. That often keeps them from wanting to explore the city and fall in love with it like I have since I was a child.
My favorite song on Jay-Z's new album "The Blue Print III" is "Empire State Of Mind" . The song is about the web of perseverance that is embedded in New York City. The essence of the song really gets me emotional and every time I listen to it, I am reminded of my favorite city, Baltimore or locally known as Bmore. I love Baltimore so much to when my friends frequently calls me Mr. Baltimore. I love Baltimore for it's hundreds of communities that exist on every block, for it's fabulous thrift stores, for it's love for local art, and of course for the tasty crabs! I love it all!
I just wish that foreigners explore Baltimore with open arms and except all of it's fabulousness.

I'm not a fan of Jay-Z personally but I do like that song. It's catchy.
I feel you on the misconceptions of Baltimore. I'm not from here. I'm from DC but I was at repass earlier this year and one of the deceased's friends leaned over and asked me if The Wire was filmed anywhere where we were. I was like uh, I don't know and she looked at me like....wrong answer !!!! I get that question so much being a residnet of this city and it does get to be annoying so I feel you. Now as far as sightseeing and making the city my home....I'm guilty...after 9 years I still dont know a whole lot about this city. Give me 9 more years and get back to me !!!
What foreigners don't know about Bmore is it's charming and the locals are open and friendly, much more than DC Metro.
I'm annoyed when foreigners are also ignorant of our ways, beliefs, values, and culture. Every time they walk towards me they pretend I'm not there w/o saying an 'excuse me' or when I open the door to get in, they choose to walk over me "me first" deal. I no longer open doors when they come near! heh! I don't leave the door open for them either.
Did you know that Baltimore's ppl are similar to New Yorkers? I was reading ppl's thoughts off www.city-data.com, it was interesting.
Abdu,
I have to personally say that although I'd like to move around and live in a few more cities before I die, I still love Baltimore. I love the way you can drive on one street and it can take you through multiple counties and even to another state. I like all the small coffee houses with the lively, eccentric owners, the cobblestone that dates back centuries, and all the eclectic art exhibits. No, Baltimore isn't perfect and yes, it's stricken with crime on a daily basis, but it's still home to millions of people who love it just the same.
Araina - i agree with you. Even though my plans are not to live here forever you make great examples of why I love baltimore.
I agree! There is a reason they call it Charm City. I came for college years ago and just couldn't bring myself to leave!
See I knee there was love here for Baltimore!lol
Totally agreed. Speaking of Jay-Z, check out my review of his concert at 1st mariner at BohsAndOs.wordpress.com
