It's official: I'm moving to Baltimore City.
I've lived in Baltimore County for the past three years (and Harford County before that) and the commute has finally gotten to me. In the morning, it takes me an hour to get to work. It should only be a 20-minute drive, but the county is apparently the hip place to live and 8am is the hip time to drive to the city. I'm tired of being hip.
The only problem is, I don't know where to move! Canton is nice, Fells Point is fun, Mt. Washington is cute... but do I want to live there?
Here's what I do know: I need an apartment with AC and a washer and dryer. (I will never be able to live without these things, so please don't ask me to.) I don't want to live within sight distance of UB (no offense, but I see enough of you). I want to have a grocery store within a 10 minute drive (or walk). And a place where my chances of getting jumped are not higher than 15%.
Please send me your suggestions! Should I avoid a certain apartment building or landlord like the plague? Do you love your current neighborhood?

Wow !!! Well I own a home in the city. I love my neighborhood and my neighbors are really nice. Prior to home ownership (going on 3 1/2 yrs now), I lived on Yale Avenue in the College Gardens Townhomes. The management company is Regional Management. They own a number of properties in the city. The main office is right on Fayette Street next to that Walgreens at St Paul street. College Gardens does cater to the young student. The UMBC shuttle bus comes through the neighborhood because there are number of students living in the area. Car ride downtown is 10-15 mins...straight down Frederick Avenue to Pratt to MLK and UB. Post office right in neighborhood, less than 2 two minutes away or a 5-10 minute walk. On Wilkens Avenue and Maiden Choice lane area you have everything from McDonalds, Taco Bell/KFC, Royal Farm, Giants, Mars Supermarket, Subway, a nail shop, a liquor store should you need to wet your tonsils...Radio Shack !!!! Now when I lived there 2000-2006, I never had a problem with my house or car. The mgmt company answered what few calls we made to them in a timely fashion. So it's worth a search. My recommendation though anywhere you may be considering RIDE BY AT NIGHT....that's when you really tell what a neighborhood is like, see if anyone is lurking. Here's the website to regional management http://www.regionalmgmt.com/
I hope your search comes along very soon. I wish I could suggest somewhere for you to rent in the city but I am def. a county girl. I do have many friends that live in canton square and they love it! Maybe you should look into that area. I do not hear about a lot of crime in that area so you should be okay. Good luck and let us know if y ou find someplace.
Come live in Fed Hill where you'll be surrounded by bridge and tunnel trash and skanky girls. Maybe we can grind in Mothers one night...
