Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club

No, the image to the right is me at a tournament not at the club. :D I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Team Ground Control in Baltimore sometime in high school. It's been one of the best choices that I have made in my life as the skills I've learned have helped me in many situations (those drunken brawls) as well as changed my outlook on many things. Jiu-Jitsu has helped me add confidence in my fitness levels as well as a sound base for living my life.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was founded by the Gracie family in Brazil. It's primarily a ground fighting art that focuses on using leverage against your opponents. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches technique over strength and more often a smaller man or woman can defeat someone much larger then themselves with proper technique.

The club meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5-6:30 PM and is taught by a fellow UBalt student with 6 years experience and a purple belt. The first 30 minutes include workouts and stretching, followed by 30 minutes of technique & drills, and ending with 30 minutes of free grappling. Fear not if you have no experience as the class now is mainly beginner and an attitude free learning place. We are currently in the process of purchasing Gi's or uniforms that can be borrowed by all students.

So if you've ever wanted to try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and learn some of the moves your favorite UFC fighters are doing stop by the class and check it out! Gear wise I recommend wearing a pair of boardshorts (yes the kind you swim in) and a long sleeve Under Armour style shirt. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask but if you're looking for something fun, new, and physical give us a try!

This is really useful, I know myself and a few other people were wondering if UB had any sort of Jiu Jitsu. I will definitely be stopping by.
