MOTHER'S DAY

Once again, the week has passed me by. It's Sunday, and I'm like oh crap...my blog is due tomorrow !!! So I take a minute and think. I almost want to write a sermon because of the moving day I had today but I can't find my blog guideline paper to see if what's on my mind would be over the boundary ! It's okay. I have a journal to turn to. Instead, I thought about mom.
In just a few weeks, we all are going to be looking for something special for that special lady in our lives. So I wondered, where did this day come from. I Googled it and was shocked to find that Mother's Day was actually started as a remembrance of a mother that had passed away.
On May 12, 1907, two weeks after the death of her mother, Anna Marie Jarvis, held a small tribute to her mother at a Methodist church. Anna worked hard to make this a recognized holiday. Seven years later, President Woodrow Wilson signed a Congressional Resolution setting aside Mother's Day as a national holiday to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May. One extra special fact I learned about Anna Marie Jarvis was that her mom was born in Culpeper, Virginia....the home of quite a number of my family members !!! Go Culpeper ... click HERE to learn more about this town !!!

Although Anna wanted to celebrate mothers, she soon found that the day became too commercialized. She and her sister died in poverty trying to reverse the effects of what Mother's Day had become. She felt people took the easy way out and bought a card, instead of writing a personal letter to this celebrated woman. The amounts of money, I found on the web was shocking....$6 billion on flowers, millions on cards and jewelers report it as one it's best times of the year....wow, we spend that much on mom !

I'm not going to lie, I'm guilty of giving a few dollars to at least one of those industries. I say few dollars cause I'm cheap ! I just don't believe in spending $5 for a card. I'm an artsy person and can make a card just as easy as I can buy one. She's really more impressed with what I can do on a computer than I am !! I'm no poet but I know I can write a little something, something sweet and personal to make my momma smile. Just being me makes my momma smile !! She sees all that I have done for myself, all that I have stayed away from and I know that makes every day Mother's Day for her.

I know many of you have probably seen these two emails but they never grow old ! Now don't copy these and put them in a card for your moms ! Be original people !

The Images of A Mom

*4 YEARS OF AGE --- My Mommy can do anything!
*8 YEARS OF AGE --- My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
*12 YEARS OF AGE --- My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
*14 YEARS OF AGE --- Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either!
*16 YEARS OF AGE --- Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
*18 YEARS OF AGE --- That old woman? She's way out of date!
*25 YEARS OF AGE --- Well, she might know a little bit about it.
*35 YEARS OF AGE --- Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
*45 YEARS OF AGE --- Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
*65 YEARS OF AGE --- Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

And here's one for your funny bone !!!

Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater.
If you give her sperm, she’ll give you a baby.
If you give her a house, she’ll give you a home.
If you give her groceries, she’ll give you a meal.
If you give her a smile, she’ll give you her heart.
She multiples and enlarges what is given to her.
So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of sh*t !!!!

Until next MONDAY, stay blessed family.

Good as always. I never knew the history behind Mother's Day. I tell you, you learn something new everyday. I totally agree with you on this one as usual. It not about how much you spend its the heart and love you put in it. I know my mom is happy just to see a smile on my face and no gift or amount of money can replace that unless its a Laptop! (you know she wants one of them so bad) Mother's day is very special and we need more days like it to honor the people who have giving their all to make the best possible life for their young...I'm grateful for my mom!!

Until the next one.....Markeia
